Studio Policies
My studio policy is designed to create a structured, effective, enjoyable, and fair learning environment. Key aspects include:
Cancellation Policy:
-
Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled lesson time to qualify for a make-up lesson. This can be done via phone call, message, or email.
-
If a lesson is missed without a 24-hour notice ("no show"), or if the cancellation notice is given less than 24 hours before the lesson time, it will be considered a forfeited lesson.
-
Each student is allowed a maximum of 2 cancellations for every set of 5 lessons.
-
If there are known conflicts with upcoming lesson dates (e.g., holidays, events), please inform me at the time of booking or payment for your lessons.
-
There are no refunds for unused or canceled lessons.
Break Policy:
-
If you choose to take a break from lessons, unused lessons can be banked for up to 3 months. Lessons not used within this period will be considered forfeited.
-
If you decide to discontinue lessons permanently, please provide a notice of 2 lessons in advance.
Make-Up Lesson Policy:
-
Lessons canceled with at least 24-hour notice will be eligible for a make-up lesson, scheduled at a mutually convenient time for both the teacher and student.
-
Make-up lessons typically occur on an alternate time/day within the same week. In some cases, they may be scheduled adjacent to the original lesson time, allowing for an extended lesson duration.
-
Make-up lessons not utilized within three months from the original cancellation will be considered forfeited.
Pricing and Payment Policy:
Payment Terms:
-
Payments for individual lessons are due at the time of each lesson.

Student Expectations:
-
Regular Practice:
-
Practice is essential for progress. Students are expected to practice regularly, ideally daily, to develop their skills and reinforce what is learned during lessons.
-
-
Structured Practice Sessions:
-
Practice sessions should be structured. This includes warm-up exercises, focusing on new techniques or pieces learned during lessons, and revisiting older material to maintain proficiency. See the FAQ page for a sample practice session.
-
-
Goal-Oriented Practice:
-
Each practice session should have clear goals, based on the objectives set during lessons. This might include mastering a particular scale, improving a section of a piece, or working on rhythm and timing.
-
-
Duration of Practice:
-
The minimum recommended duration of practice will depend on the student’s level:
-
Beginners: 15 minutes per day.
-
Elementary: 30 minutes per day.
-
Intermediate: 60 minutes per day.
-
As students advance, practice time may increase, as recommended.
-
-
-
Self-Evaluation:
-
Students should learn to evaluate their practice sessions, noting areas of improvement and those needing more focus.
-
Parent Expectations:
For the Parent: Guidance and Incentive Expectations
-
Creating a Supportive Environment:
-
Provide a quiet and comfortable space for practice, free from distractions.
-
Ensure that the piano or keyboard is in good condition and accessible for practice.
-
-
Encouragement and Positive Reinforcement:
-
Offer encouragement and positive reinforcement. Celebrate the student’s progress and achievements, no matter how small.
-
-
Monitoring Practice Sessions:
-
While it’s important for students to develop independence, occasional monitoring of practice sessions can be helpful, especially for younger students.
-
-
Scheduling and Reminders:
-
Help in setting a regular practice schedule and gently remind the student of practice times, especially if they have a busy schedule.
-
-
Incentives for Consistent Practice:
-
Consider establishing small incentives for consistent practice and achievement of goals. This could be as simple as praise, a favorite activity, or a small reward.
-
-
Communicating with the Teacher:
-
Keep open communication with the teacher regarding the student’s progress, challenges faced during practice, and any other relevant observations.
